Easy lessons begin with an introduction to using a sewing machine. This is a rework of the Sewing with Stitcher website and my reality check. If you read the original post, I was going to be filling all but a few days of the calendar with lessons each month. Then I had a conversation with 20-year small business owner daughter. She asked some pointed questions which I don’t think I answered, but she knew she had me thinking about the whys and what’s. And it worked. I will be giving more time to the clothing line I am designing. I will still do the Sewing lessons and quilting lessons, but not until all the lessons for the introduction to using a sewing machine are complete. It sounds much more doable writing two posts a month than eleven. Leave it to the first born to get Mom back on track!
Why the Change to lessons
Why the change to lessons? Now feels like the right time to do it is my only answer. I always wanted to grow up and be a teacher that finds ways to make learning fun for everyone. I’ve embraced every opportunity in my adult life to teach and tutor a variety of subjects to an array of ages and I think my presentations have been fun for learning.
This change from blogging about a wide spectrum of subjects to a more focused platform is something I hope others will embrace. I want to make learning fun and easy in the self-paced lessons on getting to know your sewing machine. The idea is your new skills will encourage you to take the Sewing lessons and/or the Quilting lessons. I will pack lots of information in the one post I do for each month that will keep you busy until the following posts. By the time I get all the other lessons written, I will have figured out how to teach hand stitching. I do have a few ideas bouncing around in my head which explains why I’m lacking sleep!
teaching Online is a new experience
Teaching online is a new experience for me and a bit frightening. I am writing for beginners. So, I worry I will have students staring at my post with “the deer in the headlight look”. Just drop me a line in the comment section below or email me at stitcher@sewingwithstitcher.com. I promise I will try to answer your question(s) so you can stop with the deer impersonation.
