I may have marked two items off the 2017 Project List as completed in April, but I added two new ones! I’m making a custom t-shirt quilt which has been fun and much like putting a jigsaw puzzle together with no picture to refer to. As I type, it is about 1/4th stitched together with the remaining 3/4 just pinned to the design wall waiting to become one top. The blocks are not consistent in size, so I am finding myself using a mixture of techniques to accomplish the task of turning them into a twin-size quilt. Then I will custom quilt each block, taking care not to quilt through the lettering or design already part of the block. Again, another challenge in taking t-shirts and ending up with a one-of-a-kind quilt!
It will be a gift to a young lady graduating from high school AND junior college at the same time. This special gift from her mom preserves daughter’s years in Girl Scouts. I feel privileged in being asked to help in this endeavor.
The quilt also has a bottom border/banner in GS green not shown in the photo. It is similar to the top border in width making the final measurement approximately 75″ x 88″ of memories! Read and see the finished quilt at /gs-t-shirt-quilt-a-huge-hit/
And a second graduation quilt also demands my attention. This one is for my oldest grandboy graduating high school and headed off to the University of the Ozarks in Arkansas where he will pursue his studies and play baseball for the university! Naturally, his quilt from Grandma will be made with purple and gray fabric, the University colors.
I will post progress photos. Here are the fabrics I will be using, minus the pink I used to bind the recent Mystery Quilt and the white flannel is for my new 8′ x 8′ design wall that will have to wait for these quilts to be finished!
